Capturing the essence of a river experience, the Trestle Bench features a reclaimed Cottonwood bench top and leg with dark resin and a welded steel leg in a contemporary design.
Design
This unique bench has a modern, asymmetrical design combined with warm tones and organic materials. Crisp edges help this bench hold its own in modern architecture, but carries enough presence to make a statement.
Construction
Constructed from one live-edge slab of character-filled Cottonwood, I split the slab in half and joined the two halves with the live edges in using a deep, dark resin pour. The river pour cascades down the wood leg with a precise join. The wood had rich grain, a spectrum of tones from crème to black, and features resin filled knots, cracks, and bug holes. The Cottonwood is resin impregnated and finished with a durable, water resistant, food-safe finish that will protect the bench from daily use while remaining easy to maintain. The waterfall leg features a steel bar foot with two adjustable feet.
The steel leg reflects bridge construction and is custom fabricated from 1/2” square tube welded into a set of 16 triangles with a cradle top connecting the leg to the table. The cradle uses (4) M6 bolts set into threaded inserts. Each of the four mini-legs that make up the trestle leg have a custom inset wooden foot.
